Artcrank 2010!

Ooh it's that time of year again. Time to get the two wheeler out and head to Artcrank! This year Shelter Studios (2112 Broadway in Northeast) is hosting this wonderful event. It's April 10, and I am so excited because some of my favorite artists are making work this year.
This year I wanted to illustrate my wonderful biking city of Minneapolis and all the beauty that can be found on one ride; lakes, animals, trees, neighborhoods, rivers and even friends. It's a four color hand screened print on recycled paper. See you there?

Toys in the Attic show

My favorite toy growing up (besides the Sit-n-Spin) was the Fisher Price Little People. Their constant smiles let me know that, in whatever situation they were placed, they were having fun. Be it in a sandbox, the bathtub or under the couch cushions.
This year I have the wonderful opportunity to participate in the Toys in the Attic show at the Soo Visual Arts Center. The show opens the evening of December 4th and will showcase prints from local artists ($30) and custom toys from national artists (silant auction). All of the toys and door donations, plus 25% of print and toy sales, go to Toys for Tots.

Sioux star quilts

This summer I had the opportunity to take a road trip through the great plains, stopping in small towns along the way to camp and explore. Many towns we went through were reservation towns and for-sale were these amazing star quilts made by Sioux women. I was struck by their graphic quality and how much they reminded me of Nordic patterns. These are my interpretations of the traditional design.

Highpoint!

Starting July 1 Winterborn will have a new home. After 2 wonderful years in Northeast at Microbrew Artist Coop, I have decided to move the studio to Highpoint Center for Printmaking. They have a beautiful new facility that has everything an aspiring printmaker could ever want. Look for some new work in August.

Well shucks ... how awesome is this!

This is Maddie. She wants to be an artist. Maddie's dad Jim purchased my "Rolling Along" print at Artcrank and it is now displayed in Maddie's bedroom! She did an amazing homage (from memory) during her class at school. I have no doubt Maddie is going to be a huge success in the art world. Keep rolling along my little friend!

Rolling Along

I was going to wait to post until Artcrank, but it looks like the twitterpix have already been circulating. The concept of this piece is simple—I like riding my bike. And what I've learned from riding helps me roll over the bumpy parts of my life. Hope to see everyone at the show on the 4th! Until then, roll on my friends.
